Lachlan Gaskell wins Flight 2 at Wake Forest Invitational

North Carolina freshman Lachlan Gaskell secured the Flight 2 singles title at the Wake Forest Invitational held at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. Gaskell finished the three-day tournament with a 4-0 record, including a victory over VCU’s Erwann Bouchet via injury retirement in the final match.

Other notable performances included Duke’s Yannick Alexandrescou and Jakub Smejcky, who reached the Flight B doubles championship match after defeating opponents from Davidson and Mercer, though they ultimately lost to South Carolina’s Antonin Witz and Gabe Avram. Smejcky also reached the Flight 1 singles semifinals before withdrawing due to injury.

UNC’s Will Mayew recorded wins against UNCW and South Carolina before falling to Wake Forest’s Alexander Cornelius Shalmi. Both North Carolina and Duke players are scheduled to compete in the ITA Sectional Championship in Charlottesville, Virginia, starting November 5.
