Laconia olive oil season opens with price drop to 5.95 euros per kg

The new olive oil season in Greece has commenced with a primary sale in Laconia at a price of 5.95 euros per kilogram. The transaction, conducted by the Agios Apostolos Agricultural Cooperative, involved approximately 54 to 55 tons of extra virgin olive oil destined for Italy via the company Alta Marema.

This opening price marks a significant decrease compared to previous years. The first sale of the 2025/26 season was recorded at 7.85 euros per kilogram, while the 2024/25 season opened at 10.20 euros per kilogram. While the current price is higher than the 2019–2022 averages, producers remain concerned as high production costs for energy, fertilizer, and labor continue to pressure margins.

Greek production for the upcoming season is estimated to be between 280,000 and 330,000 tons. On a broader scale, Mediterranean olive oil production is expected to reach between 3 and 3.2 million tons, with Spain forecasting a 23% increase in production to approximately 1.6 million tons.
