Lacs 1 Commune receives waste management equipment via German partnership
The Lacs 1 Commune in Aného, Togo, has received a significant shipment of equipment to strengthen its solid waste management system. The acquisition, valued at approximately 394 million FCFA (roughly 600,000 euros), was made possible through a partnership between the German city of Nuremberg and Aného.
The project was funded 95.08% by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development via Global Engagement and its Service for Municipalities in an Integrated World (SKEW). The Lacs 1 Commune contributed the remaining 4.92%.
The equipment includes two compactor trucks, five modern tricycles, one ampliroll truck, five large waste bins, a composting machine, and various manual tools such as wheelbarrows, shovels, and forks. Additionally, the shipment includes safety gear for 200 personnel, including protective suits, gloves, boots, and goggles.
This initiative aims to increase the monthly waste collection capacity from 512 tonnes to 940 tonnes. German Ambassador Stefan Anton Messerer praised the decentralized cooperation, noting its importance for local well-being and the development of the tourism sector.
