Ladakh: 28 geographical features identified for official map standardization

The Indian government, in consultation with the Union Territory of Ladakh, has identified 28 specific places and geographical features to be included on the official Survey of India (SoI) map using standardized names. The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that this initiative aims to facilitate accurate recognition and increase public awareness of these locations.

The identified features encompass a variety of terrain, including peaks, mountain ranges, passes, glaciers, valleys, rivers, lakes, and land areas. Notable examples from the list include the Kanishka Peak, Skamri Glacier, Shkorga Valley, Yangpa River, and Guru Rinpoche Lake. This standardization is part of an ongoing effort to maintain official cartographic records and ensure naming consistency.
