Ladakh LG reviews commercial flight preparations for Thoise and Kargil airports

Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena met with officials from the Ministry of Defence, Indian Air Force, and Airports Authority of India in New Delhi to review preparations for commercial civil flight operations at Thoise and Kargil airports.

At Thoise Airport in Nubra Valley, the Indian Air Force has allocated five acres of land for a new civil terminal. Runway recarpeting is expected to finish by November, with a target to begin commercial flights from the refurbished existing chartered terminal by December 2026.

For Kargil Airport, a joint inspection by the Indian Air Force, Airports Authority of India, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation is scheduled for September 1 to assess readiness. The initiative aims to improve regional connectivity, support tourism, and stimulate economic activity in the border areas.
