Ladakh Pashmina growers gain direct market access at Srinagar buyer‑seller meet

More than 100 buyers, exporters, traders and business representatives from Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India attended a buyer‑seller meet in Srinagar organized by the Cooperatives Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh, the All Changthang Pashmina Growers Cooperative Society Ltd and J&K Bank. The event aimed to create direct market linkages for Ladakh Pashmina growers, reduce the role of intermediaries and improve price realisation. Participants discussed quality assurance, branding, Geographical Indication (GI) certification, value addition, digital marketing and expansion of domestic and international markets. Officials announced plans for a dedicated digital platform and mobile application to enable digital payments, provide information on government schemes and market conditions, and link producers directly with buyers. The Cooperatives Department said more such meets will be organised to strengthen market access and support the livelihoods of Changthang herders.
