Ladislav Frej discusses mental health struggles and career shift

Ladislav Frej, son of actor Ladislav Frej, has shared his journey of navigating mental illness and its impact on his acting career. While studying puppet acting at DAMU and working with the Dejvické Theatre, Frej experienced a psychotic break that made it impossible for him to remain among people or complete film projects.

Following hospitalizations and struggles with medication, he stepped away from performing. He spent time working at a center for people with mental disabilities in Unhošť before eventually finding a way back to the theatre. Rather than acting on stage, he transitioned to behind-the-scenes roles, managing technical aspects such as sound, lighting, and stage production to maintain his connection to the craft.
