Ladislav Hojer, Czechoslovak Serial Killer Executed in 1986

Ladislav Hojer was one of the most brutal serial killers in Czechoslovak history. Convicted of five murders, an attempted murder and eighteen rapes, he also confessed to cannibalism, claiming he ate part of a victim’s body. The investigation was led by renowned criminalist Jiří Markovič, and a breakthrough came when Hojer bragged about a murder in a Prague pub, revealing details known only to investigators.

Hojer was sentenced to death and spent 636 days in the “death cell” of the Pankrác prison hospital. After multiple postponements due to health‑check requirements, he was finally executed by hanging on 7 August 1986. The execution was carried out by prison staff in a tightly controlled procedure, with six witnesses present, and lasted only a few minutes.
