Ladrillar hosts Spanish Vertical Kilometer Championship
The town of Ladrillar in the Las Hurdes region hosted the XII Kilómetro Vertical de Las Hurdes–Tío Picho on Sunday, October 25. The event served as a dual competition, featuring both the Spanish Club Vertical Kilometer Championship and the final round of the IV Spanish Vertical Kilometer Cup organized by the Spanish Federation for Mountain and Climbing Sports (FEDME).
Approximately 200 runners from 11 men's clubs and seven women's clubs participated in the race. The demanding 3.5-kilometer course involves a 1,015-meter vertical ascent from the Ladrillar natural pool area to the summit of Cerro Rongiero, reaching an altitude of 1,627 meters through the Sierra de la Grajera.
During the event, one female runner required medical evacuation after suffering a severe muscle contraction that left her unable to walk. The Civil Guard, Red Cross personnel, and event volunteers coordinated to transport the athlete via mountain trails to an ambulance, where she received further medical assessment.
