Ladysmith begins deconstruction for new $37-million intermediate school
Deconstruction has begun at the Davis Road site in Ladysmith to prepare for the construction of the new Ladysmith Intermediate School. This $37-million project serves as a seismic replacement and expansion of the existing Ecole Davis Road Elementary.
The new facility will provide 390 seats, an increase of 90 over the current capacity, and will feature 14 classrooms, a gym, a multi-purpose room, and a media-technology centre. Notably, it is expected to be the first seismic replacement and expansion project in British Columbia to be built entirely using prefabricated building techniques.
This initiative is part of a larger $52 million provincial investment in Ladysmith schools. An additional $15 million is allocated for the expansion of Ladysmith Primary School, which will add 10 classrooms using prefabricated methods to accommodate 250 more students. Construction for the intermediate school is scheduled to begin in spring 2027, while the primary school expansion is expected to start this fall.
