Ladysmith businesses protest upcoming First Avenue road closure
Business owners in downtown Ladysmith are expressing concern regarding a scheduled eight-hour closure of First Avenue on September 21. The closure, which affects a two-block section between Roberts and High Street, is necessary for construction related to The Islander development.
Local merchants, including Martin Tang of Appetit Food for Thought, have criticized the short notice provided for the disruption. Business owners worry that the loss of vehicle access and approximately 60 on-street parking spaces will deter customers, particularly seniors. Tang estimated potential revenue losses between $800 and $1,000 for his restaurant during the closure period.
