British Columbia lifts off-road vehicle bans in select fire centres

The BC Wildfire Service is rescinding off-road vehicle (ORV) prohibitions on Crown land in several British Columbia fire centres, effective Friday, August 28. The decision follows recent precipitation in the southern Interior, which has reduced the immediate wildfire risk.

The lifting of restrictions applies to all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, and side-by-side vehicles across the Kamloops Fire Centre, the 100 Mile House Forest District, and the Southeast Fire Centre. A partial rescission of the prohibition will also occur in the Coastal Fire Centre.

Despite the lifting of ORV bans, several fire restrictions remain in place. Campfire prohibitions (Categories 1, 2, and 3) continue in the Kamloops Fire Centre until October 9 and in the 100 Mile House district until October 31. The Southeast Fire Centre has no announced end date for its campfire bans. Other prohibited activities include the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, and certain wood-fired devices.
