Ladysmith Council approves tax exemptions and infrastructure funding

The Ladysmith Council has approved several municipal measures, including a one-year Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw for 2027. This bylaw maintains existing exemption levels and adds the Arts Council of Ladysmith and District for its portion of the Machine Shop.

Regarding infrastructure, the council authorized a $400,000 transfer from the Sewer UV Phase 3 Construction project to address emergency repairs at the Sandy Beach Pump Station. Additionally, a contract for $319,724 plus GST was awarded to Ridgeline Mechanical Ltd.

The Stocking Lake Dam project also saw developments, with the council approving an additional $193,358 plus GST for design fees. This increase follows a redesign aimed at raising Stocking Lake, which is expected to be more cost-effective than raising Holland Lake. The project remains within its $5 million estimate, with the CVRD set to cover 50 percent of the costs under the Saltair water agreement.
