Ladysmith Historical Society seeks museum preservation plan

The Ladysmith and District Historical Society is calling on the Town of Ladysmith to establish a long-term plan for the community museum and its heritage collection. The Ladysmith Museum is currently located in the historic Garden House, which sits on land the town purchased over a decade ago for the intended purpose of constructing a new municipal hall.

Historical Society president Quinten Goodbody stated that while the town needs a larger city hall to meet growing administrative needs, planning must begin immediately to ensure the continuity of the museum and its collection in the event of redevelopment.

Mayor Deena Beeston noted that recent public engagement indicated strong support for preserving the museum, even though residents have not reached a consensus regarding the new municipal hall. Beeston described the discussion regarding the future of the museum and archives as ‘long overdue.’
