Stephanie Higginson leads in Ladysmith-Oceanside after election result correction

Stephanie Higginson of the BC NDP has taken a narrow lead in the Ladysmith-Oceanside riding following a correction to preliminary provincial election results. After Elections BC addressed a data entry error, Higginson holds 13,380 votes (44.37 per cent), placing her 13 votes ahead of BC Conservative Party candidate Kris McNichol, who has 13,367 votes (44.33 per cent).

Elections BC has announced that a recount will take place for the riding, alongside the counting of absentee and mail-in ballots, scheduled from November 6 to November 10. Results will not be finalized until these processes are complete.

McNichol attributed the shift to “a human error” and stated that every vote will be counted. Higginson noted that while she is leading heading into the recount, there remain many unknowns in the process.
