Ladysmith prepares for 28th annual Arts on the Avenue festival
The Arts Council of Ladysmith is preparing for its 28th annual Arts on the Avenue festival, scheduled for August 23. The event involves months of intensive planning, beginning shortly after the conclusion of the previous year's festival.
Organizers utilize a jury process to select participants, reviewing portfolios, biographies, and artist statements to maintain the standards of a fine art show. This year, the council received between 60 and 70 vendor applications for approximately 65 available spaces, alongside more than 50 applications from local musicians.
The festival is managed by three Arts Council staff members and a team of 30 to 40 volunteers. Efforts focus on supporting artists, particularly first-time vendors, through communication and information packages to ensure a smooth experience during the event.
