Laeta Kalogridis to write Samurai Spirits film

Laeta Kalogridis has been tapped to write a live-action film adaptation of the SNK fighting game series Samurai Spirits. The project is being developed by The Arena, a production company founded by Erik Feig that receives financial backing from SNK.

Kalogridis is known for her work on Altered Carbon, Shutter Island, and Alita: Battle Angel. The Samurai Spirits series, which debuted in arcades in 1993, is characterized by its feudal Japanese setting and weapon-based combat.

This announcement is part of a broader slate of SNK adaptations being developed by The Arena. Other projects include a Fatal Fury film written by David S. Goyer, a standalone prequel titled Geese, and an animated series titled Fatal Fury: The Vow in development with Skybound. Additionally, an adaptation of Art of Fighting and a webtoon based on Art of Fighting are reportedly in the works.
