Lafayette field hockey splits early season matchups
The Lafayette Leopards field hockey team faced two close defensive battles in Evanston, Illinois, during their early season schedule.
In their season opener against Kent State, Lafayette secured a 2-1 victory. Lena Thedrian opened the scoring via a penalty corner in the second quarter, followed by a second goal from Stella Malinowski in the third. Kent State’s Sophia Livingston scored late in the fourth quarter to narrow the margin, but the Leopards held on for the win.
Lafayette subsequently faced the No. 1 ranked Northwestern Wildcats, falling 1-0. Despite being outshot 20-2, the Leopards' defense, led by goalkeeper Addison Kahn, kept the game scoreless until the 56th minute. Jessica Freedman scored the decisive goal for Northwestern following an assist from Piper Borztook, leaving Lafayette with a 1-1 record.
