Lafayette firefighter comforts young child following vehicle accident

A Lafayette firefighter gained social media attention for his compassionate response to a vehicle accident involving a child. Following a crash on Pinhook Road near the Community Bank building, a firefighter from the Lafayette Fire Department sat with a young boy on the bumper of a fire engine to distract him from the traumatic scene.

The boy had been in the vehicle involved in the accident, and officials noted the firefighter's actions were intended to comfort the frightened child while other responders addressed the injuries of those involved. The moment was captured in photos by a bystander and subsequently shared by the Lafayette Fire Department.
