Lafayette motel shooting leaves one person critically injured

A shooting at the Plantation Motor Inn in Lafayette left one person in critical condition on Saturday evening, October 17. Law enforcement responded to the scene around 7 p.m., discovering a victim with gunshot wounds who was subsequently transported to a local hospital.

The incident occurred while the motel was in a court-ordered transition period. The city had recently ordered the property to cease operations due to long-standing public safety concerns, including a history of homicides and approximately 2,000 police calls over several years. While the closure order prohibited new guests and rental agreements, existing residents were permitted to remain for up to 45 days.
