Lafayette police pursuit ends in fatal crash

A police pursuit in Lafayette, Louisiana, ended in a fatal collision early Saturday morning near the Vermilion River. The incident occurred around 2:32 a.m. in the 1600 block of West Pinhook Road after officers attempted to assist Louisiana State Police with a vehicle evading a traffic stop.

Investigators report that the driver of a 2012 Ford F-150, identified as Larry Hamilton Jr., disregarded a red traffic signal at the intersection of La Rue France and West Pinhook Road, crashing into a 2018 Chevrolet Impala. The collision resulted in the death of one passenger in the Impala at the scene. Two other individuals in the Impala sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. A passenger in the Ford F-150 sustained moderate injuries and is in stable condition.
