Lager 157 workers in Myanmar report poor conditions
Textile workers at factories producing clothing for the Swedish retailer Lager 157 in Myanmar have reported severe working conditions, including low wages and extreme heat. According to an investigation by Sveriges Radio Ekot, workers earn between 2,000 and 3,500 SEK per month, despite working up to 100 hours of overtime monthly.
Employees reported working 12-hour days and described the heat inside the factories as unbearable, noting that some colleagues have fainted at their machines. During a strike on August 10, workers demanded basic rights such as clean drinking water, sanitary toilets, formal employment contracts, and fans.
Lager 157 stated that if the allegations against the supplier's factory are confirmed, it would constitute a breach of contractual obligations. The company has requested that the supplier conduct and document necessary investigations, noting that changes would be required for the factory to remain in their supply chain.
