Lages man sells coffee at traffic lights to overcome betting addiction
Gustavo Pereira, a young man from Lages, Santa Catarina, has turned to selling coffee at traffic lights to overcome a severe addiction to online betting and casinos. After losing significant sums—with reports indicating losses exceeding R$ 500,000—Pereira faced debt, anxiety, and a loss of dignity.
To manage his recovery, Pereira utilizes the self-exclusion tools provided by the Brazilian Ministry of Finance. He now starts his day at 4:00 AM to prepare coffee and hot chocolate, selling them at intersections to keep his mind occupied and engage with the community. He has reported saving R$ 4,000 through this new venture, which he uses for therapy and household expenses.
