Lago de Sanabria hosts 8th open water swimming event

The eighth edition of the Lago de Sanabria Open Water Swimming Traverse is scheduled for Sunday, August 30. The event has attracted 520 registered participants to compete in the waters of the largest glacial lake in the Iberian Peninsula.

Due to high demand, several categories, including the 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter races, have already reached full capacity. Remaining open slots are available for the 800-meter and 6,000-meter distances. This edition serves as a tribute to Riad Boudakji, a swimming pioneer in Zamora.

The competition is organized by the Castilla y León Swimming Federation and Smartchip, with support from the Diputación de Zamora, the Junta de Castilla y León, the Galende City Council, and Caja Rural de Zamora. The event marks a return to the lake following previous cancellations caused by the pandemic and regional wildfires.
