Lagoa Santa school suspends classes after 20 scabies cases

A municipal school in Lagoa Santa, located in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, has suspended classes following the confirmation of 20 cases of scabies. One additional case was reported outside the school environment.

Local authorities announced the suspension for October 1 and 2 to ensure the well-being of the school community and to contain the spread of the disease. Officials noted that controlling the outbreak has been challenging due to some families continuing to send children to school despite confirmed diagnoses.

During the suspension, the school will undergo sanitization processes, including pest control and water tank cleaning. A medical team has been stationed at the school to provide rapid diagnosis, guidance, and medication through the SUS (Unified Health System).
