Lagoinha Church account sees R$ 57 million in atypical movements

A report from the Council for Financial Activities Control (Coaf) has identified atypical financial movements totaling R$ 57.1 million in an account belonging to the Lagoinha Baptist Church in the Belvedere neighborhood of Belo Horizonte. The movements occurred between December 24, 2024, and December 8, 2025.

The account was managed by Fabiano Zettel, who is identified by investigators as a financial operator for a criminal organization linked to former banker Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master. Zettel is also the brother-in-law of Vorcaro. The R$ 57.1 million figure is significantly higher than the church unit's estimated annual revenue of R$ 950,000.

Coaf noted that the frequency, value, and nature of these transactions may serve to hide the origin, destination, or responsible parties of the funds. Investigators are examining whether the church was used as a “pass-through account,” noting that credits and debits were nearly equal. Approximately R$ 4.9 million of the funds were transferred to construction and real estate companies. While the Lagoinha Global network stated the funds were intended for church improvements and did not come from tithes or donations, the scale of the transactions has triggered a Federal Police investigation.
