Lagos airport to receive direct light rail connection and new terminal bridge

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Lagos State Government are advancing infrastructure projects at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) to improve connectivity and passenger experience.

A major component of the plan involves extending the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line directly into the airport. This extension aims to provide seamless rail access between the airport and the Lagos city center, including areas like Marina. The planned rail line is expected to feature four or five dedicated stops within the airport perimeter, serving Terminal 1, Terminal 2, the Hajj/Cargo area, and administrative offices.

Additionally, FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku announced that the new overhead bridge connecting Terminals 1 and 2 is nearing completion following the final concrete pouring. The bridge is expected to be operational by the December peak travel period. Ongoing rehabilitation works also include structural facade improvements, canopy installations, and the modernization of baggage handling and check-in technologies to enhance overall passenger transit.
