Residents of flood‑prone neighborhoods in Lagos say rapid urbanisation, inadequate drainage infrastructure and climate‑change effects have intensified flash floods that trap people indoors, damage homes and disrupt commerce. They urged completion of unfinished canal projects and protection of wetlands to restore natural flood buffers.

In Calabar, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) attributed recent flooding to blocked drains and indiscriminate waste dumping, which choked waterways and amplified flood risk. NEMA called for proper waste‑disposal practices, a multi‑agency WhatsApp coordination platform and expanded public awareness campaigns to improve flood preparedness across Cross River State.
