Lagos and Ogun residents report high cooking gas prices despite depot cuts

Residents in Lagos and Ogun State are calling for government intervention as retail prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) remain high despite recent reductions at the depot level. While the gantry price was lowered from ₦980 to ₦950 per kilogram, driven by price adjustments from the Dangote Refinery, consumers report paying between ₦1,350 and ₦1,500 per kilogram at retail outlets.

This discrepancy represents a price increase of approximately 47.3% to 57.8% above the latest depot rates. Local residents have expressed frustration, describing the situation as exploitation by marketers during a period of rising living costs. While some depot owners and marketers have reduced their rates by ₦15 to ₦30 per kilogram, these savings have not been passed down to the end consumers in many areas.

Representatives from the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) have not yet provided a formal response to the allegations of overpricing.
