Lagos announces 2026 World Food Day activities to boost food security
The Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has announced a series of activities for the 2026 World Food Day celebration, themed ‘Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow’. The initiative aims to engage approximately 3,500 stakeholders, including farmers, agribusiness operators, researchers, and investors, to address food security challenges in the rapidly growing state.
Dr. Oluwarotimi Fashola, Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, stated that the program focuses on using innovation, technology, and sustainable practices to transform the state’s food systems. Key objectives include improving agricultural productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, strengthening storage and processing, and expanding distribution networks to meet the high food demand of Lagos' dense population.
The scheduled activities include a road walk on October 8, a Lagos Agric Scholars Quiz Competition on October 14, and a grand finale on October 16 at the Ikeja Police College Parade Ground. The celebration is intended to foster collaboration between the government, private sector, and research institutions to build more efficient food production and supply chains.
