Nigeria political parties intensify 2027 election preparations
Political activities in Nigeria are intensifying ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement has established a 59-member Presidential Campaign Council to organize support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso. The council includes zonal and state coordinators across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory, led by Director-General John Ughulu.
In Lagos, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has structured its campaign council for the 2027 polls. The council is chaired by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as Deputy Chairman and former governors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode serving as Co-Chairmen. The party has also established an Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate featuring prominent Nollywood actors and Fuji musicians.
Internal political tensions have also emerged, including a disagreement between APC governors and Nyesom Wike regarding his Rainbow Coalition. Additionally, a campaign rally for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket in Warri, Delta State, was reportedly disrupted by suspected thugs. Meanwhile, the Abia State Government has scheduled a religious assembly to seek guidance for the upcoming election cycle.
