Lagos APC selects Damilola Sonayon-James as Hamzat's running mate

The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State announced that Damilola Sonayon-James, the party’s Deputy Woman Leader and a 41‑year‑old native of Badagry, will be the running mate of governorship candidate Dr. Obafemi Hamzat. The decision was disclosed by Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, who said the selection was based on her competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance and loyalty to the party.

Sonayon-James, known locally as “Sisi Eko of APC,” has a record of championing women’s empowerment, youth inclusion, agricultural development and community welfare. The announcement followed a meeting that included Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, Governance Advisory Council leader Tajudeen Olusi and other senior party officials. Hamzat secured the APC governorship ticket in May’s primary election with an overwhelming majority, positioning the Hamzat‑Sonayon‑James ticket for the upcoming Lagos governorship contest.
