Lagos authorities implement 24-hour traffic strategy and warn of prosecutions
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has launched a 24-hour traffic management strategy to handle the expected increase in vehicular and pedestrian movement during the festive season. The initiative involves deploying specialized response teams to major interchanges, bridges, and commercial districts to manage real-time traffic, optimize flow, and respond rapidly to incidents such as vehicle breakdowns and road crashes.
In response to a recent fatal accident on the Coastal Road that resulted in one death and three serious injuries, the Lagos State Government has warned that motorists engaging in excessive speeding and reckless driving will be arrested and prosecuted. Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi and LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki both urged motorists to prioritize safety and comply with traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
