Lagos-Benin Expressway gridlock strands motorists for hours
Motorists and commuters experienced a major gridlock on the Lagos-Benin Expressway on Sunday, leaving many stranded for over three hours between Ovia Bridge and Okada Junction.
Many of the affected vehicles were articulated trucks. The congestion was reportedly caused by a combination of an accident along the route, vehicle breakdowns, and drivers parking on the roadside to sleep.
Local drivers identified the Okada axis as a recurring problem area due to deteriorating road conditions near the Tipper Garage. Commuters have called on the Federal Road Safety Corps to enforce traffic laws and urged the Edo State Government to repair the damaged sections of the highway to improve movement.
