Lagos Blue Line rail expansion to add three stations by February 2027

The Lagos State Government plans to expand the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line by adding three new stations by the end of February 2027. The planned stations—FESTAC, Alakija, and Trade Fair—will extend the service beyond its current western terminus at Mile 2, increasing the total number of operational stations from five to eight.

This expansion aims to improve connectivity along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor, providing residents and businesses with an alternative to road transportation. While the immediate target focuses on these three stations, further extensions toward Volkswagen, Lagos State University, and Okokomaiko are planned as part of the project’s second phase.

Since commencing commercial operations on September 4, 2023, the Blue Line has seen significant growth. By its third anniversary in September 2026, the service had transported nine million passengers and completed 80,000 trips with zero recorded accidents.

In addition to the rail expansion, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) reported that four Quality Bus Corridors are nearing completion. Construction is also progressing on the Marina and Mile 2 interchange hubs to improve connections between rail and bus services.
