Lagos BRT bus burned by mob after fatal collision in Ikorodu
An angry mob set a Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle on fire in the Ogolonto area of Ikorodu following a fatal collision with a commercial motorcyclist. The accident reportedly occurred when the motorcyclist entered the restricted BRT lane, leading to a collision with the oncoming bus.
Following the crash, a crowd of local youths and motorcyclists attacked the bus driver in an attempt to lynch him. Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) intervened to rescue the driver, who was unharmed. The mob subsequently doused the high-capacity transit bus in petrol and burned it.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) confirmed the incident, noting that the destruction of the vehicle would deprive approximately 400 residents of daily transit services. Officials emphasized that the motorcyclist was in violation of traffic regulations by riding on the BRT lane at the time of the accident.
