Lagos building collapse leaves one dead in Fadeyi
A two-storey building under construction collapsed in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State during the early hours of Friday. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that one person has died and three adult males were rescued from the site.
Emergency responders, including the LASEMA Cobra Response Team, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigeria Police Force, arrived at the scene shortly after a distress call was received at 12:10 a.m. Rescuers used an excavator to clear debris after hearing groaning sounds from beneath the rubble, suggesting others might still be trapped. The three rescued individuals received medical care from paramedics before being transported to a hospital.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, stated that regulatory agencies will investigate the cause of the collapse. The state government has reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring construction standards to prevent similar incidents.
