Lagos court adjourns KC Luxury detention hearing to September 2026

A Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned the hearing regarding the detention of businessman and socialite Afolabi Kazeem Michael, widely known as KC Luxury, until September 21, 2026. The delay follows requests from both legal teams to await a ruling from a sister court concerning whether the current court has the jurisdiction to preside over the matter.

Kazeem is currently being held by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following an ex parte order obtained in August for a 30-day detention to facilitate investigations into alleged drug trafficking. Kazeem’s legal counsel, led by Abdulakeem Labi-Lawal (SAN), is challenging the legality of this detention. The defense argues that the order violates fundamental rights, noting that the NDLEA has the discretion to grant bail if satisfied with the investigation's progress and that legal limits typically restrict holding an uncharged suspect for more than 14 days at a time.

The NDLEA, represented by lawyer Abu Ibrahim, did not oppose the adjournment. The court will reconvene in September to continue proceedings once the jurisdictional questions are addressed.
