Lagos court orders NDLEA to produce KC Luxury after 14-day detention

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to produce Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, a socialite and celebrity jeweler known as KC Luxury, following his 14-day detention without formal arraignment. The court order, issued by Justice Friday Ogazi, follows an ex parte application filed by Micheal’s legal team challenging the legality of his continued custody.

Micheal was arrested on August 13 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while preparing to travel to Paris. The arrest was linked to the NDLEA’s seizure of 184.5 kilograms of cocaine from a courier company, an interception the agency described as its largest to date. The NDLEA alleged that Micheal was involved in a cartel operation using Nigeria as a transit route for drugs destined for Europe, the United Kingdom, and Asia.

While the NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, stated that Micheal was allegedly found in possession of various currencies and expensive jewelry, the court’s directive focuses on the procedural aspects of his detention rather than a determination of guilt. The NDLEA has been directed to respond to the allegations within five days, and the case is adjourned until September 9.
