Lagos court remands woman over alleged 13kg cocaine export

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of 70-year-old Barek Mary Yetunde in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ikoyi. The order was issued by Justice Friday Ogazi pending a bail application hearing scheduled for September 2, 2026.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arraigned Yetunde on a two-count charge involving the alleged possession, transportation, and exportation of 13 kilograms of cocaine. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on June 28, 2026, at the departure hall of Terminal 2 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.

It is alleged that Yetunde transported the narcotics from her residence in Okota to the airport to be exported via a Virgin Atlantic flight bound for the United Kingdom. Yetunde has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
