Lagos fashion designers prepare for upcoming season

As Lagos Fashion Week and GTCO Fashion Weekend approach, the Nigerian fashion industry is preparing for a new season of runway presentations. Established designers are expected to command independent stages, while a younger generation continues to influence contemporary African fashion.

Key designers to watch include Mai Atafo, known for sophisticated tailoring and large-scale theatrical productions, and Banke Kuku, recognized for expressive prints and elegant fabrics. Both are preparing standalone presentations.

The upcoming season follows a significant 2025 edition characterized by immersive storytelling and historical milestones. Notable past moments included Sevon Dejana’s couture-focused atmospheric sets, Oshobor’s fantasy-inspired presentations, and Street Souk making history as the first streetwear brand to debut at Lagos Fashion Week.
