Lagos government aide criticizes Solomon Buchi over tourism comments

Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Lagos State Governor, has criticized content creator Solomon Buchi following the latter's advice to foreign tourists regarding travel in Nigeria.

In a video shared online, Buchi suggested that international visitors, specifically mentioning Caucasian and Chinese tourists, look beyond Lagos to experience the “truest” side of Nigeria. He recommended exploring cities such as Uyo, Abuja, Ibadan, Calabar, Jos, Taraba, Kano, Yola, and Bauchi, arguing that Lagos' fast-paced nightlife and culture of materialism do not represent the country's broader identity.

Responding on X, Akosile dismissed the remarks as “bitterness” and “hateful rhetoric.” He defended Lagos as a vital commercial and entertainment hub, stating that its vibrant nightlife and social scene are primary attractions for visitors. Akosile maintained that the city remains a destination for business and economic opportunity, regardless of the criticism.
