Lagos Governor and financial bodies urge capital market expansion
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) to increase capital market participation and promote financial literacy across Nigeria. During a meeting with CIS leadership, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need to educate the public on savings, investment, and wealth creation to ensure more citizens can access market opportunities.
In a joint statement, the CIS and the Association of Securities Dealing Houses of Nigeria (ASHON) highlighted recent milestones in the Nigerian capital market, including the transition to a T+1 settlement cycle and the inauguration of the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan 2.0. The organizations expressed support for the ambitious N750 trillion market-capitalization target and commended the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its regulatory leadership and the launch of the National Savings Scheme.
