Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveils health system overhaul and N1.9 bn artisan support plan

At the Eko Health Convention, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said Lagos is shifting from isolated projects to sustainable health systems that will deliver quality, accessible and affordable care for generations. He highlighted the expansion of the state’s health‑insurance scheme, Ilera Eko, which now covers more than 1.5 million residents, the new Assistance in Distress programme that has saved 18 lives, and the decentralisation of primary‑care administration into six health districts, along with new maternal‑child centres, mobile clinics and free health‑campaign services.

Sanwo‑Olu also announced that the Lagos State Government has disbursed over N1.9 billion in affordable loans to more than 4,000 small businesses and granted support to 65 enterprises. Eligible entrepreneurs can obtain up to N5 million at single‑digit interest rates without collateral. An eight‑week skills‑training programme for 1,200 artisans and tradesmen has begun, with further training planned in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, aiming to turn artisans into job‑creating entrepreneurs.
