Lagos Governor discusses state police and housing delivery
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has indicated that state police operations could commence by late 2026 or the first quarter of 2027. Speaking at the unveiling of the Kessington Adebutu Security Trust Fund building in Ikeja, the governor stated that the establishment of state police would expand the responsibilities of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund regarding funding and logistics. He assured existing federal police officers that the new formation would not threaten job security and would instead focus on collaboration.
In a separate announcement at the Real Estate Discussions and Awards, Sanwo-Olu reported that his administration has delivered 10,623 housing units across 23 estates since 2019. These figures include 4,414 units funded through direct budgetary allocations and 6,209 delivered via Public-Private Partnerships. The governor noted that ongoing projects are expected to bring the total number of delivered or projected homes to 14,022 as the state works to address its housing deficit.
