Lagos Governor pledges support for 2026 CAF Awards

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged full government support for hosting the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards, scheduled for December 7 in Lagos. During a meeting with a CAF delegation led by Project Lead Dr. Christian Emeruwa, the Governor assured that the state would prioritize security, logistics, branding, and venue access to provide a world-class experience for international guests.

The CAF delegation is currently conducting a five-day inspection mission in Nigeria to evaluate facilities for both the awards in Lagos and the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Abuja. Key inspection sites in Lagos include the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Eko Hotel and Suites, and Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

Additionally, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed support for Nigeria hosting the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), a biennial ladies’ golf championship. While the tournament is set to take place at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja, the Governor commended the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) for promoting women’s participation in sports.
