Lagos governorship candidates pledge education and economic reforms
Lagos governorship candidates have outlined competing visions for the state ahead of the 2027 elections. Funso Doherty, representing the New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), pledged to provide free public education, including textbooks and examination fees, as well as free maternal and child healthcare. His platform also includes a commitment to build 150,000 housing units and provide daily nutritious meals and free transportation for public school students.
In contrast, Femi Hamzat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) focused on economic reforms. Hamzat promised to eliminate unauthorized and untraceable levies imposed on businesses by various government agencies. He proposed establishing a State Economic Council to coordinate between state and local governments to streamline charges and create a more predictable environment for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.
