Lagos High Court sentences five to prison over N117.7m fraud
A Lagos State High Court sitting in Tapa has sentenced five individuals to seven years of imprisonment each for their involvement in a N117.7 million fraud case involving Chi Limited.
The convicts, identified as Yinka Salawu, Joshua Oluremi Daramola, Raji Ahmed, Afolabi Israel Olusegun, and Muraina Olanrewaju Abdullahi, were found guilty of conspiracy to obtain money by false pretense and forgery. According to the prosecution, the defendants obtained N81,359,922.00 from Chi Limited under the false claim that the funds were payments for goods and services that were never delivered.
The case was prosecuted by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Justice K. A. Jose delivered the judgment following testimony from 17 witnesses and the presentation of documentary evidence from the EFCC, police, banks, and Chi Limited.
