Lagos inaugurates Agege food hub to improve supply chain

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Agege to address structural issues within the state’s food supply chain. Located at Pen Cinema, the facility is designed to accommodate between 350 and 400 vendors, providing storage and trading infrastructure for farmers, wholesalers, and retailers.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated that the initiative aims to reduce post-harvest losses and mitigate price volatility. He noted that because over 70 per cent of food consumed in Lagos is produced outside the state, the current fragmented supply chains expose residents to high transportation costs and supply disruptions. The Agege hub is part of a broader network of facilities, following the flagship Lagos Central Food Systems and Logistics Hub in Epe.

In anticipation of the inauguration, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation issued a traffic advisory for the Pen Cinema-Agege axis, warning motorists of expected congestion due to high volumes of vehicular and human traffic.
