Lagos LAMATA partners with China’s CCECC to launch Railway Training Centre as rail network expands to 11 lines
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has signed an agreement with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to establish a Railway Training Centre. The centre will provide classroom instruction, simulation‑based learning and hands‑on training to create a skilled workforce for Lagos’s expanding rail system.
The partnership coincides with the Lagos State Government’s updated Strategic Transport Master Plan, which increases the rail component from six lines to eleven lines plus one monorail. LAMATA reports that over 400 staff have already been trained for the Blue and Red Lines, achieving more than 90 % local staffing on the Blue Line. Officials say the new centre will reduce reliance on foreign expertise, create jobs for Nigerian youth and support the country’s broader industrialisation goals under the China‑Africa Vocational Education Plan.
